Businesses may still be recovering from the recession, but executives are continuing to outsource non-core tasks like data processing services. Instead of hiring and training new employees, senior staff members can work with experts—ultimately saving them a lot of time and money.
There are many third-party companies out there to help organizations with their daily operations, but that does not mean they have a contract to work with one another. This could possibly make multisourcing more difficult than advantageous for the chief communication officer (CIO) or executive in charge of managing these accounts. A lack of infrastructure will make multisourcing less productive and more expensive, according to the news source CIO.
“So while the intent is to leverage best-of-breed capabilities, the outcome is often a hodgepodge of discrete services that doesn’t benefit the business.” Lois Coatney, director with outsourcing consultancy Information Services Group, told the news source.
Sometimes, it is easy to forget that vendors are still contractually obligated to serve the client. If tasks aren’t completed at the end of the day, these outsourced vendors may put themselves out of work, possibly losing out on additional recommendations.
To properly manage multiple vendors, the CIO should create an agreement that outlines that multiple parties will work with one another, or be subject to fines from the client. Having regular telephone conferences with the vendors can also open paths of communication, reminding them that they are a part of the business’ success. If managing multiple vendors doesn’t work out, look for a vendor that can complete as many of your non-core tasks as possible. This way, senior staffers are only working with one outsourced provider.
